Engineered for Your Property
At NuPoxy, we approach retaining walls as engineered elements of your property, not just landscaping accessories. In Canada's freeze–thaw climate, the real enemy isn't the block — it's water. Hydrostatic pressure building up behind a wall is the leading cause of failure. That's why drainage, reinforcement, and base preparation are non-negotiable in our process.
How We Build for Long-Term Stability
Proper Base Preparation
Every wall begins with excavation to stable subgrade. We install a compacted granular base — never soil — to create a solid foundation that distributes load evenly and resists movement over time.
Drainage-First Approach
Water management is critical. We install 3/4" clear drainage stone backfill, filter fabric separation where required, and weeping tile or drainage pipe routing when needed. This reduces hydrostatic pressure and prevents freeze-related expansion behind the wall.
Reinforcement Based on Height & Load
Not all walls are created equal. Depending on wall height, soil type, and surcharge loads (like driveways or structures above), we implement reinforcement strategies including geogrid reinforcement layers, concrete footings for taller systems, and engineered block systems where required. Walls over certain heights require additional structural considerations, and we plan accordingly to ensure performance and longevity.
Quality Materials & Clean Finishes
We build using premium systems tailored to the design and structural needs of the project. The final result is both structurally sound and visually refined.
- Interlocking concrete block systems
- Armour stone installations
- Poured concrete retaining structures
- Natural stone or architectural finishes
Structural Integrity Meets Design
Retaining walls are often necessary — but they can also enhance your property dramatically. When integrated with landscaping and hardscape design, retaining walls create dimension, structure, and architectural presence in your outdoor space.
- Managing sloped yards and elevation changes
- Protecting foundations and structures from soil movement
- Preventing erosion and washouts
- Creating level outdoor living spaces
- Framing patios, driveways, and pool areas
- Building raised garden beds or integrated seating walls
Why Professional Installation Matters
Common causes of retaining wall failure include insufficient base depth, poor compaction, lack of drainage, no reinforcement in higher walls, using impermeable backfill, and ignoring soil conditions. Shortcuts may save money upfront — but they almost always result in costly repairs later.
At NuPoxy, we build retaining walls that are designed to perform through seasonal shifts, heavy rainfall, and freeze cycles — protecting both your property and your investment.
